Project Overview

This custom flooring project was a complete replacement of hardwood flooring and subfloor that were severely water damaged. While we were not able to completely duplicate the original 1 ¼” top nailed white oak floor we did remain true to the overall spirit of the floor with: wide border, herringbone interior corners, and quarter sawn white oak.

Materials & Design Details

Flooring Material: 2 ¼” rift and quarter sawn white oak
Finish & Treatments: Oil-based Polyurethane
Special Features: 13” border with herringbone inside corners and mitered outside corners.
Design Inspiration: Inspired by the original 1920’s floor

Final Outcome & Impact – in addition to the damaged floor, demolition of the affected ceiling and wall revealed serious structural issues. Together with our partners at Historic Building Restoration we were able to: fix the framing issues, add a half bath, install new cabinets, improve the layout of the kitchen and dining area, and best of all install and finish an exquisite floor that will last for ages!
